Unorthodox by Deborah Feldman is her memoir of growing up, and getting married within a New York Hasidic community. This is a fascinating look at the beliefs, customs and everyday life of this community, told from the point of view of someone who begins to question her beliefs and lifestyle, and eventually leaves the community. I was looking at this the other day I think it looks interesting but probably quite a tough read.

One thing that was so good about this book, is that though the lifestyle didn’t suit her, it was her personal view, and she did not condemn it as a lifestyle for those that chose it.
