What (am I currently reading)?
I am currently reading Backstories by Simon Van der Velde @simonvdvwriter . This is a literary fiction series of short stories – each with a twist. Themes include diversity, nostalgia, music, crime, social justice – so there is plenty here for everyone.
Publication day is Thursday 25th March, and Backstories will be available as paperback, audiobook or e-book.
The author is sharing 30% of all profits from the sale of Backstories between Stop Hate UK, The North East Autism Society and Friends of the Earth.

Blurb (kindly supplied by https://www.simonvandervelde.com/ )
Dreamers, singers, talkers and killers ; they can dazzle with their beauty or their talent or their unmitigated evil, but inside themselves they are as frail and desperate as the rest of us. But can you see them ? Can you unravel the truth ? These are people you know, but not as you know them. Peel back the mask and see.
Synopsis
Backstories is a unique collection of stories each told from the point of view of a famous, (or notorious ) person at a pivotal moment in their lives. The writing is literary but accessible and the voices vividly real. The settings are mostly 60 ‘s and 70 ‘s UK and USA, and the driving themes are inclusion, social justice and of course, nostalgia – but the real key to these stories is that the protagonists ‘ identities are withheld. This means that your job is to find them, leading to that Eureka moment when you realise who ‘s mind you ‘ve been inhabiting for the last twenty minutes.

Why (have I chosen to read it)?
Currently I seem to be low on concentration, so these short stories intrigued me. Normally I’m not one for short stories, but these works of fiction, based on real people of the past sounded interesting. I wonder how many of them I can guess before the big reveal, and I’m hoping they will provide plenty for me to think about.
While (I am reading it)
We’ve gone from mild warm spring days back to winter with about a foot (30 cm) of snow here in the valley. The plants that were making an effort to appear through the soil are now completely covered in snow, and the birds that were gradually returning are finding it tough. I’m putting out food for the birds on the balcony – safely away from our young enthusiastic cat.

If you would like to tell me What you are reading, Why you are reading that book, and what you’re doing While you’re reading it, then let me know via the Guest Blog Page on EmmabBooks.com and maybe I’ll blog about it.
All the best, Emma
