Out Today: The Crazy Season by Jim Ody   @Jim_Ody_Author @QuestionPress @zooloo2008

Today is Publication Day for the psychological thriller The Crazy Season by Jim Ody, published by Question Mark Press.

Below is a little about this great thriller, an extract and some info about the author.

Book Blurb (received from  https://zooloosbookdiary.co.uk/ – who has organised this book tour)

Joel Baxter is infamous for solving weird and bizarre cases that others avoid. So, when he receives an email from a teenage boy Tim saying his town is cursed, he cannot turn it down. “…I will more than likely be dead when you read this. There is nothing I can do about it. It’s the curse, and we’ve hit The Crazy Season.” Every 20 years, there are a handful of unexplained teenage deaths and it’s started again. With the help of his straight-talking friend Melody, they set out to get to the bottom of the alleged curse. Everybody in Black Rock has secrets and nobody wants to speak. The closer they get to truth the more Joel and Melody realise that their involvement is far from coincidental.

Extract:

He’d fallen straight to sleep with exhaustion. His body stank of sweat and fear. It had eaten into his clothes and hung in the air like bad thoughts. After the initial deep sleep, his slumber soon became fitful. He was only slightly conscious of wriggling like a dying fish on dry land. The events of the evening before playing heavy on his mind. His dreams twisted the horror of it all into different scenarios. Each one worse than before. His mind was in a war to suppress them. It was a war it lost.

At one point, he awoke with a start. It was a little after three. He wasn’t covered in sweat like in the movies, but his heart felt like it was going to explode through his chest. Like that old guy in the movie where the alien suddenly freed itself from inside of him.

Images flashed through his mind. Cloaks, masks, darkness, naked flesh, and blood. So much blood.

Everything had spiralled out of control, and he didn’t know why. At times he felt like he’d been under a spell. Or a curse.

He tried to go back to sleep. He turned from side to side but his once soft mattress now felt like gravel beneath him. His pillow a tool to suffocate. It no longer brought him comfort but instead worry that it might wrap itself around his face.

He’d gone to the party with hope. He’d been so excited. A sense of adventure beckoning. Late on, he’d found it and a whole lot more. He’d slowly gone deeper and deeper until there was no return.
