#amreading – What, Why, While :  The Lady in the Veil by Allie Cresswell @Alliescribbler

What (am I currently reading)?

My current book is the historical fiction The Lady in the Veil by Allie Cresswell .  The official publication date is Friday 25th June, but I think it is available in Kindle format from today.  My review will be up on EmmabBooks.com around publication day.

What secrets hide beneath the veil?

When her mother departs for a tour of the continent, Georgina is sent from the rural backwaters to stay with her cousin, George Talbot, in London. The 1835 season is at its height, but Georgina is determined to attend neither balls nor plays, and to eschew Society. She hides her face beneath an impenetrable veil. Her extraordinary appearance only sets off gossip and speculation as to her identity. Who is the mysterious lady beneath the veil?

The Lady in the Veil continues the story of the Talbots in The House in the Hollow but stands equally well alone.

Why (have I chosen to read it)?

I have not read any of Allie Cresswell’s books before so when I was offered this it seemed a great opportunity to discover her, and enjoy some historical fiction. I am absolutely loving it so far! Historical fiction mixed in with some fascinating information about what was going on at the locations at the time.

While (I  am reading it)

We’ve been having a lot of rainy nights recently, which does make it a bit muggy during the day.  However the mountain lifts are now running, so I am enjoying walking up to Middle Station, and getting the lift down.  Today, lots of cows were being taken up by tractor and trailer, so they too are about to start enjoying their summer (and maybe scaring me if my footpath goes through their pastures).   I do find walking amongst nature a magical  way to spend time.

All the best, Emma
