#amreading – What, Why, While :  The Quiet People by Paul Cleave @PaulCleave @OrendaBooks

What (am I currently reading)?

I am currently reading the crime thriller The Quiet People by Paul Cleave.  It was published in November 2021 by Orenda Books.

Cameron and Lisa Murdoch are successful New Zealand crime writers, happily married and topping bestseller lists worldwide. They have been on the promotional circuit for years, joking that no one knows how to get away with crime like they do. After all, they write about it for a living.

So when their challenging seven-year-old son Zach disappears, the police and the public naturally wonder if they have finally decided to prove what they have been saying all this time…

Are they trying to show how they can commit the perfect crime?

Electrifying, taut and immaculately plotted, The Quiet People is a chilling, tantalisingly twisted thriller that will keep you gripped and guessing to the last explosive page.

Why (have I chosen to read it)?

I was attracted to the cover, and saw it recommended so many times on Twitter, that I added it to my TBR pile.   The first book I have read by this author, but I have read, and loved, many books by Orenda Books – so that helped it reach the top of the TBR pile.

While (I  am reading it)

It has been beautifully sunny this week, so we enjoyed a walk along the valley, and then lunch at the bottom of one of the ski slopes.  Not much better than ginger and carrot soup served with garlic bread, eaten outdoors on a warm winter’s day!    No photo of the soup, as though it felt warm in the sun, it was only 1C, so food needed to be eaten quickly before it went cold.

My review of The Quiet People will be up soon, in the meantime take a look at my Thrillers and Crime genre page https://emmabbooks.com/thrillers-and-crime/

All the best, Emma
