Prisoner by Ross Greenwood

Audiobook narrated by David Thorpe

Prison drama at its best

My rating:  5 out of 5

A gripping prison drama, with characters that seem very real , and a story that seemed all to likely to be true.

UK cover

Prison Office Dalton is respected by colleagues and offenders alike.  He has worked for many years in the men’s wing, so thinks a short transfer to the women’s young offenders wing will be a breeze.   He finds there are dramatic differences from working in the men’s wing, but it is certainly no easy job.   Through Dalton we learn about life as a prison officer, why many of the offenders are there, and what life “inside” is like.   Then Dalton makes a mistake and this great read becomes a real page turner to find out what will happen.

The author, Ross Greenwood, has been a prison officer himself, and his depictions of everyday life within the prison, the different characters that work and live there, and reasons behind the offenders being there are all  fascinating and keep the story moving at a fast pace.   Also the effect of the stresses and long hours of Dalton’s job on his home life added to the story as a whole.

US Cover

5*s from me for this fantastic novel which opened my eyes to a different world, and kept me gripped and interested throughout.  The narrator was brilliant – just perfect for the story.
