The Last One to See Her by Mark Tilbury

Enthralling thriller with dark sections

My rating: 4 out of 5

Two men sitting on a bench watch a young girl walk by.  The girl disappears, leaving both men wondering if they had anything to do with it.

The Last One to See HerMathew is a wonderful character who sees things a little differently from others, has mental health issues and suffers from memory lapses.  Jim is a very different character, who also has memory lapses.  They themselves, and the police, wonder if they had anything to do with the girl’s disappearance.

The first half of this book was gripping, fast moving and brilliant to see things from Mathew’s point of view.  Definitely 5*s for me, on account of the depth of Mathew’s character and the great story.  The second half of the book was too dark for me – but still fast moving and exciting.  There is a short chapter about a cat which I  found distressing; however this does show that the power of Mark Tilbury’s writing had drawn me in so much that I felt strongly for the cat, instead of glossing over it.

4*s from me –  would be 5*s if I was into dark thrillers!  Between reading sessions I found myself thinking about the characters, and I felt really involved with the story (hence my problem with the dark sections).  The whole story was fast moving, intriguing and a great thriller.   A great read.
