How to Disappear by Gillian McAllister

I listened to the audio version, which is narrated by Nicola Walker

Tension Building Thriller

My rating:  5 out of 5

Lauren’s daughter, Zoe,  witnesses a crime which means that they have to go into witness protection at very short notice.  A new home, new friends to be found, a made up background and the constant fear of being found by those who are hunting for them.  Can they survive and start again?  Can they leave all they have known and loved behind?

Meanwhile Lauren’s husband is determined to find, and stop, the people who have ruined his life.  Can he achieve what the police can’t?

This is a powerful story where difficult life changing decisions have to be made fast.  Lauren’s fears and desperation come across strongly, as does Zoe’s difficulties from being uprooted and made to lie all the time.  Strong characters, combined with constant tension building make this an compelling listen.  The narrator is excellent, in fact so good that I didn’t really notice her, I was just so involved in the story.

5*s from me as the story felt very real, and made me think what it would be like to have to up and disappear at short notice, through no fault of ones own.  How life can change in a moment!
