The One by John Marrs

I listened to the audio book version, narrated by :

Clare Corbett, Vicky Hall, Simon Bubb, Jot Davies, Sophie Aldred

Involving thriller which becomes  unputdownable

My rating:  5 out of 5

An attention grabbing thriller, with a great idea.  This book goes from being a great read to a “hold everything until I’ve finished” read.

5 people apply to find their perfect match through a widely used DNA test.  5 very different people, 5 very different results.  Will they all turn into “happy ever afters”?

This is such a great idea.  Cut out all that doubt and time wasting, and pay a small amount to find your Mr/Ms Right – through science.  Perfect, but what if your perfect match isn’t quite what you expect?  What if he/she has secrets that must be kept from you?

Wow, I loved this from start to end.  The concept was fascinating, and kept me interested right from the start.  Then with about 4 hours listening time to go it went from a great thriller to an outstanding one, that I finished in record time as I just “had to know”.

Chapters alternate between the 5 main characters, which as an audiobook I did find a little confusing to begin with, but it only took a few moments of each chapter to work out which character we were on.   As I’m hopeless with names I think a paper version would have been better for me, as I would have scribbled a note as to who was who (I listen to audiobooks when I’m out exercising – so don’t take notes).  Even so I loved every moment, and having multiple narrators is always a plus point.

5*s from me as I loved the concept, found myself fully involved with the characters and nearing the end this book was unputdownable.   First book I have read/listened to by this author; I am definitely going to be reading more!
