As most of your probably know, I am a mega animal lover – hike with me and expect frequent stops to move a snail or other similar creature out of danger and off the path (who else does this?). So when I come across a great book that includes animals in it, I’m a happy person. Here are just 3 such books from my website EmmabBooks.com

Note that the US version of this novel is called How the Penguins Saved Veronica
Veronica McCreedy is 85 years old, and travels to the Antartica to visit the penguins – you’ll need to read the book to find out why. The penguins, and the whole story, were wonderful. Indeed I immediately investigated holidaying in the Antartica to see penguins in the wild for myself (the price made that a non-starter!).
A heart lifting story, with penguins*. I listened to this as an audio book, and loved the multiple narrators.
Please someone, make this into a film.
*according to Google, penguins are birds, but birds come under the classification of animals. Whatever they are, I love them!

This, perfect book for cat lovers, is the wonderful tale of Nana the cat and his human Satoru. They travel together around Japan, and though it is their story, this novel is also about appreciating friends and the beauty of the world. Love overcomes all. A moving and beautiful story.

This non-fiction book is more about life in Mosul, Iraq, when it fell under the rule of the Islamic State between 2014 and 2017, than about lions. However the main character, Abu Laith, risks his life to try to save the animals in the zoo, where the lions (and other animals) are struggling to survive this terrible time.
5*s from me for this book for telling what life was like for ordinary people, during this recent history. I listened to it as an audio book.
